Cohabitation is the new strategy Microsoft is secretly deploying at scale

Hello.

Windows 11 embraces “Openness”.

In a world where it is more rewarding in the long run to hold, store and capture data and customers within your own four walls, like how all the big tech companies are doing so, Microsoft is betting against that.

They don’t care if you use Mac or Google products, so long as you still use Microsoft products.

If you are one of the rare few that still use a windows OS, you would have noticed the latest upgrade to Windows 11 popping up at the lower right hand corner of the screen recently.

If you are a Mac user, go back to sipping your expensive latte in your hippy vest while lounging in a hipster cafe.

I’m kidding.

The selling point of Windows 11 is that, in his own words, “Windows gives you the most choice.” When asked why someone should opt for Windows over macOS or ChromeOS, Nadella elaborated on his choice-related claim. “I think Windows, in fact, is becoming increasingly the device that bridges all of these ecosystems.”

So the strategy Microsoft is employing is apparently the same one it had for the Xbox, putting all of the Xbox games on PC, in order to obtain the largest possible audience.

Wall Street dubbed it the “no walls are the best walls” strategy.

Would it work?

Not sure how the other giants will react, namely Apple.

With the open-approach Windows 11 is adopting, this literally means you can use iMessage, iTunes, Android apps and a ton of other stuff directly on a Windows computer.

It is kind of a game-changer if you think about it.

All of the beauty and power of Apple and Google’s best products, but run directly on a Windows, which is functional, versatile and more affordable.

I think this is a bold and strategic move by Microsoft and it is definitely not an easy move to pull off.

Think about how the board reacted when Nadella first unveiled this strategy.

So the next time you think of beating an industry player, don’t jump right to direct competition.

Consider cooperation instead, or even cohabitation.
