Decision.

Decision. Decision. Decision.

Did you know making a “decision” is to make a “-cision” which has the root word “-cise” which literally means to “cut off”. So interestingly enough, to make a decision is to actually cut off all other possibilities or choices and to go with one final option.

I honestly didn’t know that, and was pleasantly surprised when I heard of it. How cool is that?

Think about it: to decide, technically does not mean we make a choice but rather we cut off and eliminate “all other choices”.

So to learn from the etymology of the word “decision”, when we are making decisions in life or work, especially big, important ones, its far better to make a list of all possible options and then cut them off one by one till we arrive at a final decision. Its a process, a way of thinking, a tool to make decisions better.

Sometimes, its not all about fixating on a singular endpoint or result, but to clarify and clear away all other options first. The opportunity or end goal will present itself.

Add that to your mental portfolio of thinking tools.
