Just when you thought corporate stunts couldn’t get more absurd, Duolingo took things to a whole new level of internet trolling.

Duo, the iconic green owl known for guilt-tripping millions into language lessons, recently “died,” and then conveniently resurrected — making fools of us all.

Yes, Duo’s “tragic” demise, announced via a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter), wasn’t the result of a corporate rebrand but rather a clever, calculated marketing stunt.

In typical Duolingo style, the announcement dripped with sarcasm: “Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson.”

Savage, hilarious, and somehow totally fitting.

With over 47 million views within hours, Duo’s death sparked mass mourning and even bigger engagement.

Brands like Kit Kat and Peppa Pig joined in, humorously grieving alongside users.

But just as the internet settled into mourning, Duo dramatically resurrected, appearing in a viral TikTok captioned: “Y’all really think I’d let a Cybertruck take me out?”
