Fake news is really a lot more prevalent than what we think.
Take a look at this chart.
Nearly half of the people surveyed in Turkey said that they were exposed to fake news in the past week!
Even the more economically-stable countries are facing this problem.
Fake news is proliferating and it has been a growing problem since the arrival of social media.
That is bone-chilling.
That means people are not able to trust what they read on social media.
It desensitizes people from what is real and what is not.
The constant bombardment of information and news makes it tiresome to fact-check everything, all the time.
Question is, who are the ones coming up with the fake news?
What defines as fake news?
More importantly, why are they doing so?
Information is king.
Who holds the information and how it is disseminated is key.
Social media has made it super easy to have an audience.
Anyone with a social media account has some kind of audience.
That is rather dangerous given the nature of how fake news spread.
People could start riots, “cancel” others and cultivate negative sentiments based solely on their version of the truth.
That could include lies, poorly-formed opinions and outright hate.
Then again, fake news is inherently a part of the world we live in today.
It is inevitably inherent.
Ultimately, we need to be responsible for our own actions and thoughts.
We can and should teach others to be better.
