Armored Camaro running supplies for civilians in war-torn Bosnia is everything you need to know about humanity right now.
“From 1992–1995 a Danish Special Forces officer named Helge Meyer drove his Camaro into the eye of combat. Unarmed, he brought humanitarian aid to the people who needed it most.”
Someone actually imported a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro, a true-blue American muscle car into Bosnia to run missions in a war-torn country.
They retrofitted everything they could.
Gave it additional amour to increase their protection from IEDs and bullets.
Filled up the tires with foam to enable them to continue running even on a flat.
They removed all interior lighting to hide better at nights.
They added in a military-grade GPS and radio for better, reliable communications.
What I don’t get is why Meyer goes in unarmed.
He is delivering supplies and medical aids to victims and civilians while enemies are shooting around, there is a very high likelihood that he will get caught in the crossfire.
Being armed is a wise decision.
I find that mind-blowing that he has survived after all those missions, bullets, bombs and fires.
Maybe he really has a guardian angel looking out for him.
He actually stayed on to do more humanitarian work for the next decade and then drove the Camaro back home.
He still has it now, albeit in a tangy orange color.
Oh such stories really tickles me, to know that there really are absurdly passionate and crazily dedicated people out there in the world, trying to make a difference, one tiny step at a time.
If this don’t inspire you, think about the thousands Meyers has helped and saved over the decades.
And don’t ever say you are worth nothing.
If a beat-up, old American muscle car with a lethargic V8 engine that has been shot at and been through literally firefights can still be of use after 43 years, we can ALL do better.
