Listen to your customers. The market will always tell you what to do.
When compact SUVs were all the craze years ago, every consumer car brand jumped on the bandwagon. Toyota had the Vezel, Honda had the CR-V, Nissan had the Qashqai. Sales boomed and everyone loved it. It was functional, had road presence, comfortable to drive, had sporty handling, great for small families, perfect for elderly parents, fitted with modern tech and most importantly, affordable.
Back then, luxury and supercar brands like Rolls Royce, Maserati, Lamborghini and Aston Martin balked at where the market was heading. They had their million-dollar sports cars, low-riding, alcantara leathered seats, V-12 engines that simply will not fit into a compact SUV.
Today, I present to you the Rolls Royce Cullinan, the Maserati Levante, the Lamborghini Urus and the Aston Martin DBX.
Combined, these SUVs outsold all of their super cars in the last 2 years and probably saved Aston Martin from what would be another abysmal year.
You cannot afford to fight the market. Always have your ears on the ground and know where the winds are blowing. If you are a founder, CEO or working on your startup, and struggling, do not give up. Go back to your users, they will never lie and they will tell you what to do, eventually.
