Its not a novel idea, neither is it a breakthrough in technology.
However, it serves a specific group of customers who, if you were in their position, would find it extremely convenient and in some cases, necessary!
The key to why Happy SHN works, is the perfect mixture of:
- Brilliant market timing — SHN is mandatory by law in Singapore and it creates a genuine problem for people who are faced with 14–21 days of isolation and dying for a stationary bike or an air-fryer!
- Brand positioning — the url is literally happyshn.com, I don’t know how much clearer can you get! Customers who google, hear from a friend or hotel staff knows exactly what it is and will pay for it.
- Direct marketing — not only are the hotels willing to accommodate the rentals, it actually gives them an edge and customers have more options to kill time.
Even the domain is simple, direct and to the point. Smart.
Truth is, its an opportunistic business that will probably fizzle in time, but I celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit behind it and I salute product-market fit when I see one!
