Nixon tried to nuke North Korea

“No one man should have all that power”.

I am talking about the power to change mankind and alter history, for good or for bad.

Nuclear capabilities.

World War 3 in the making kind of power.

That is the kind of power the President of the United States or POTUS has.

He can exercise that power anytime with a nod of his head.

They don’t call the POTUS the most powerful man alive for no reason.

In 1969, a US spy plane was taken down by North Korea and 31 American lives were lost.

Nixon was infuriated and in fact, reportedly inebriated, when he ordered a tactical nuclear strike.

“Henry Kissinger, National Security Advisor for Nixon at the time, also got on the phone to the Joint Chiefs and got them to agree to stand down on that order until Nixon woke up sober the next morning.”

I am pretty sure there is a lot more to the story but it blows my mind to realize that one man, in a moment in time of history, could have so much power and influence at his/her disposal.

Now we have everything pretty much at our fingertips and incredibly powerful devices in the palm of our hands.

Startup founders and corporate leaders, you each have the responsibility and the ability to do good.

Sure you may not be the POTUS or making the big decisions, but we all have some kind of influence on the world around us and we should be salient on how to embrace and put it to good use.

Sometimes, that also means standing up to people with the power and influence.

Imagine Kissinger backed down and let Nixon have his way.

Imagine the people who could have stood up to your boss didn’t.

We all have responsibilities.

Small or big.

Own it.
