One of the longest running TV shows in Japan you never heard of.

Don’t even try to comprehend.

Zenryokuzaka.

Bet you are wondering what that is. It is not a ninja weapon nor is it a new party drug.

It is one of Japan’s longest running TV shows played almost exclusively in the country that few will ever hear of.

Don’t google it.

Read this first.

Every night from Mon to Thurs, exactly at 1.20am, Zenryokuzaka will play for thousands to watch.

Each episode is around 6 minutes and it literally just shows a random young female actress or entertainer running up a steep slope.

There is no catch to this.

It is what I just said it is.

Young females running up random step slopes of Japan’s streets.

It is truly perplexing.

There is no co-hosts commenting, no music video debut, no real purpose except to see the females run and pant slightly after the sprint.

They do always wear something comfortable for walking like sneakers, but really there is no attempt at brand placement or endorsement of any kind.

Bizarre but true.

Why do such “weird” things get so popular especially in Japan?

Is there really a market?

There must be if it has been running for more than 15 years!

I would have never hear of it if not for some fans quibbling over the addition of a male actor in one of the episodes.

It was the very first time in decades that a male protagonist has been added in.

I really don’t know what to make of it, but I do love to discover more eccentricities of Japan culture!

Ok, now go google it for all you want.

Morale of the story?

You really don’t need to complicate things and have 7,894 features to make your customers love you.

Do 1 thing and do it really well.

Find that niche that will make users love you and watch it grow.

That’s the simplest, yet hardest part of starting up too.
