[Part 3 of 3] Louis Vuitton taught an old dog new tricks… and it worked!
Yup, Louis Vuitton entered the Metaverse too.
They created Louis the Game.
It is basically a virtual game where you, as Vivienne, get to explore and collect NFTs, while immersing in the fantasy world LV created.
Frankly, it is bold, beautiful and brilliant.
Here are some reasons why I think LV did it.
Reason #3
They want to experiment quickly.
Product testing is key to any brand.
We all know how fantastic LV is when it comes to haute couture and high fashion.
This foray into the metaverse, where you can collect, mix and match outfits and accessories will provide a fertile ground for LV to test new ideas quickly.
They can easily create a virtual collection for the Fall and throw in all their quirky, untested ideas and bold color mixes.
They can track and monitor how the thousands of players react to them and see which ones go viral.
Want a new tote bag suited for the sporty 20 year old that wouldn’t break the bank?
Throw it up in the game as a rare NFT collectible and see if it sticks.
Talk about user feedback.
This is really a lot harder to do in real life.
Imagine players can try outfits and accessories in the game and actually purchase it in real life.
Game-changer.
Reason #4
You are improving your competitive advantage as a multinational corporate.
You are developing capabilities in a new domain.
You are constructing a new domain expertise and building up muscles where others are sleeping on.
Think about it.
Every luxury brand out there are either jumping onto the NFT bandwagon or they are left behind in the dust.
Balenciaga, Gucci and Burberry to mention a few, all have released some versions of their NFTs.
But what LV did, woah, is on a whole nother level.
They actually created a virtual world and brought their brand to the stratosphere.
They actually carved out a niche and became the king of the hill, at least for now.
This will open up a lot more new possibilities for LV and pave their road to successes a lot better.
LV now has learn how to develop a proper game, built or at least worked with developers, coders, designers and game artists.
Taking a game like what LV did from conceptualisation to launch is a huge endeavour.
These are not capabilities you can built overnight.
Pretty soon, others will be playing catch up and trust me, in the cut-throat fashion world, there is nothing left for second place.
Don’t you love it when big brands take on the hype in a bold, interesting way?
