“I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps,” she said at the time.
“I’m the first Simone Biles.”
With a combined total of 32 Olympic and World Championship medals, Biles is tied as the most decorated gymnast of all time.
This is no easy feat.
Especially when you are only 24 years old.
Young girls look to her as a role model.
Athletes respect her work ethics.
The media loves to hear what she has to say.
She made all the headlines at the Tokyo Olympics, even when she decided to pull out from one of the events.
But this isn’t about her extraordinary life in sports.
I am here to talk about why she would do very well for her life after sports.
It is no secret that many athletes fizzle out and fade away after standing on the podium.
Some go into a life of drugs, party, crime and others simply just want a normal life.
I think Simone has a long and fruitful career for herself as a women and mental fitness ambassador.
Here are 3 reasons.
- She is smart, outspoken and controls the narrative the way she wants it
Just look at her when she is speaking.
She is clearly smart and people relate to her when she talks about her struggles while training.
She knows how to control the narrative and set the tone of her message well.
She makes her points clear and concise.
That way, reporters will find it hard to twist her words, even if they wanted to.
I don’t think she is one to stand back from nasty reporters and would correct them if they misinterpreted her.
- She is passionate about a topic that is growing bigger exponentially
Mental health is a huge issue that is only going to get bigger if we keep ignoring it.
So many high-profile celebrities, athletes and people have come out to talk about it.
She probably gave them a reason to.
She used her star power and the media attention to create a positive impact.
She wanted people to know that it is ok to be a superstar and still feel down.
She wanted people to be unafraid to talk about their mental health.
The pandemic and lockdowns has resulted in more people being confined at home and confronting deep-rooted issues within themselves.
It will be a growing phenomenon and I hope all of humanity can all address it properly.
- She is serious in her message and envisions the long-term
It is obvious she has thought through what she wants to say.
She has been through a lot and processed those thoughts well.
When it comes to correcting the media on why she pulled out from the Olympic event, she made it a point to be clear that is was for her own mental health.
She is serious in her message and knows how to get it across.
She could have easily done silly stunts and antics on social media to gain unnecessary attention.
But she didn’t.
She wanted people to see her for the serious message she is sending and what she is representing.
Mental health is no laughing matter and thousands are going through hard times.
She thinks long-term and wants a clean, strong image of herself for posterity.
There is plenty of opportunities for Simone and I hope she can continue to be an inspiration for the generations, young and old.
Do you think Simone is a good role model?
Let me know what you think.
