When I got wind of this news a while back, it didn’t hit me as hard. Maybe because I don’t ride or I am more into cars than bikes.
In 2023, Singapore will introduce stricter emissions regulations on old motorcycles — with a $3500 (SGD) bonus to those who de-register theirs sooner.
That means every bike registered before 1st July 2003 will be affected.
Not sure if you had a say in these matters.
It is a considerate and timely push towards sustainability and reducing the nasty effects of carbon emissions.
But at what cost to our passions, convenience and freedoms?
What about the classic motorcycle enthusiasts and old bike collectors?
Is it fair to restrict the freedom to choose and collect what one likes for the sake of curbing emissions?
Perhaps. For our children.
I feel deeply for the people who’s hobbies and true passions will be affected and yet I am for the environment and champion for sustainability.
It is a trade-off we have to make and not an easy one.
Then again, I am excited to see the wave of innovation and new electric bikes on Singapore roads!
100% I would get a mini electric car to zip around tiny Singapore and save so much on fuel.
