“Calm, the company behind the popular meditation and mindfulness app, has not only stepped up in support of Naomi Osaka but also offered to pay fines for other athletes.”
Startups, founders and marketers, this is how you do it.
Ride the wave, but do it with style, integrity and brio.
What better way to spend marketing dollars and get on the news than to stand up for a damsel in distress and make some noise for a good cause.
No, I am not suggesting that they are doing it for the wrong reasons but this is a good intention (hopefully) and close to the mission of the company, so naturally its a step in the right direction.
The last news I have heard of Calm was that they had just raised $75M more at a whopping $2B valuation. It is a 9 year old meditation app that is very popular and has talked about in the media for quite a bit.
Speaking of which, it really is quite pressurizing for a young athlete like Naomi to face so much media attention and still be expected to perform.
What do you think?
Should modern athletes be stronger and have a stronger stomach for such pressures, or should the organizations and people around it start changing their expectations and rules to make it less traumatizing for athletes?
