What a Singaporean Waste Truck Driver goes through daily.

Not a job for anyone.

“Without us, do you think Singapore can be clean?”

No.

Sincerely, no.

Definitely not.

HDB estates will be choked with rubbish in just a few days.

Litter will be everywhere.

Stench will probably build up inconspicuously over time.

Not to mention the nasty emails, complain letters and chatter that will ensue.

There are professions and people we overlook as we go about our daily lives.

Cleaners at hawker centers.

Drivers and cleaners who help clean up our streets.

Migrant workers in construction and related services.

Security guards at gantries and entrances.

The officers who painstakingly patrol every street under the sun for illegal parking.

Even the Trace Together enforcers.

These are thankless jobs that people willingly do, contributing in unseen ways to the functioning of our society.

Go watch the video: A Day With A Singaporean Waste Truck Driver.

It is refreshing to see the passion of the Waste Truck Captain, his struggles, woes and how he overcomes them.

Waste is the elephant in the room.

We ALL contribute to it.

But not all of us understand just how much of it exists.

How complicated the entire waste disposal process is.

Just how challenging certain parts of it really is.

We have amazing technology in Defi, Crypto, Space Tech and all the power and knowledge in the world right in the palm of our hand (smartphone).

But a simple problem of separating food from non-food waste is such a deceptively, deviously complex problem.

I will admit, I am not an expert in waste by any means.

But I have jumped into the rabbit hole.

I am shocked to relearn so many things and unlearn a lot of common notions that are myths.

I am long on Waste Tech.

It is a huge part of Sustainability and we can’t ignore it anymore.

My team at StartupX will be launching a Waste Accelerator soon.

We want to help generate interest, educate more people and bring new innovations into the space.

Let me know if anyone out there share the same interest.

Do you think more innovations are needed in the Waste industry?

Check out the day in a life of a waste truck driver.
