Ok today’s topic isn’t on crypto, NFTs or scams, but NATURE.
Like any good DeFi or TradFi investor, it is always good to diversify.
The ONLY animal in the world that can photosynthesize is the Elysia Chlorotica. This tiny photosynthesizing Sea Slug is a wonder of nature.
WAIT.
Aren’t green plants the only ones capable of photosynthesis?
Yup, technically.
But nature isn’t concerned about what is technical or not.
Nature only ensures that the fittest will survive and pass on their genes to the next generation.
Nature is brutal, but fair.
It ensures that the ones who are able to adapt and survive, will in time, thrive and continue thriving.
For those who failed science class, photosynthesis is the complicated process where plants convert sunlight to sugar using chlorophyll (the stuff that makes leaves green in color).
That’s the ultra-simplified version of course.
So what is up with the photosynthesizing Sea Slug?
Well, the slug is an animal, living in the ocean.
Why the heck would it evolve to have the ability to convert sunlight to sugar?
“The process of photosynthesis conducted by these special sea slugs is called ‘kleptoplasty’. The sea slugs are usually one centimeter in length and they graze on the green algae. While they graze on the algae, they also manage to retain some of the chloroplasts that are consumed by them in the process.”
“Following this retention, the leaf sheep makes use of the retained chloroplasts in order to photosynthesize energy through the light and transform it into usable energy that is food. The end result of this is that the sheep slugs can successfully manage to survive on solar power only for several months after photosynthesis.”
So the slugs hunt the algae, steal their chloroplasts, uses it to produce food and survive when food sources are low.
They adapted to survive.
Tell me this is not fascinating.
Thanks to the curiosity of the scientists who spent years researching and asking why.
Thanks to the willingness of mankind to learn and never stop learning.
Thanks to nature for being the best teacher.

Mother nature is beautiful.
