Joe Rogan has nearly 8m Twitter followers.
He has nearly 11.6m subscribers on YouTube.
His podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, has hundreds of millions of downloads over the years.
He is a world-famous UFC commentator and also the host of Fear Factor, a hit reality TV series.
Oh and he kicks really, really well too.
But all that does not grant him the gifts of intellect.
Couple of months back, he took ivermectin, a deworming veterinary drug that is formulated for use in cows and horses.
I repeat, a drug used to kill worms in animals.
Or at least that is what he claimed he did.
For a person as successful and accomplished as himself, I was shocked when he said that.
Just to be clear, if you have Covid, do not take ivermectin.
It will probably do you more harm than good.
And please don’t ever tell your doctor that you took it just because Joe Rogan did.
Joe is a multi-millionaire who has doctors and teams of medical staff on standby, monitoring his condition.
You don’t.
And he really threw everything at Covid when he got it.
“all kinds of meds — monoclonal antibodies, ivermectin, Z-Pak, prednisone, everything”
For all his success and influence, he really does say some tragically strange things.
He actually told his followers that if you are young, healthy, exercise often, you don’t need the vaccine.
Don’t you think a person like him with so much power and influence should be a tiny bit more responsible with his words?
He also cancelled a sold-out show in Canada because he isn’t vaccinated and they won’t allow him in.
Surprise!
Of course, if you do anything long enough, you will say some controversial things, so I understand.
Now, he is apparently annoyed with Twitter and is moving to GETTR.
Let’s see how that goes.
If you smile, you might recall that GETTR was the platform ex-president Donald Trump supported.
You could infer that Rogan is a Trump supporter.
But to be fair, I really enjoyed the episode he did with Elon Musk.
It was a mega long 2.5 hours, chilled-out, whacky and immersive interview that revealed a lot about Elon.
You got to give it to Rogan as a veteran interviewer, he has really sharpened his stick and polished his marbles to perfection.
But, with great power comes great responsibilities, and Rogan is no exception.
He has built up a cult of avid followers from all ages and he should be mindful on how he is influencing them, directly or indirectly.
Bottomline: always be discerning.
