When I first saw this chart, two things struck me. Wow! There are 300+ YC companies in 2021 and they have grown so much over the decades!
The first YC batch had 32 companies. The latest batch in 2021 had 319. For the stat geeks, thats a 10x!
First off, YC isn’t selling coke bottles or courses, they will not be able to scale like a normal product company. But for an accelerator, it has done a fantastic job in scaling its processes, applications, branding and of course, the quality of their startups.
Second, YC has managed to churn out some incredible startup successes like Airbnb, Coinbase, Stripe and Dropbox. Their demo day is so coveted that the average startup valuation is around $10m on average.
The real winner in my opinion, is YC’s incredible, viral-like and ever-growing brand. It literally is a beacon on the global stage, sucking in the absolute best founders and ideas into the accelerator.
